Spring is Coming!
Congratulations!  If you are reading this than you are one of the first to get a peek at our B&B blog.  This is the place to find out what's happening here at Dreamhouse Country Inn and in Bristol, Vermont.

In early April, most of what's happening is underground; the ground is unlocking, causing the roads to heave, the snow is melting fast and pouring down the mountains, running clear and cold.  The New Haven River which runs parallel to Hewitt Road is roaring.  It is one of the best fishing rivers in the country, I am told.  I am more inclined to build a little raft and try and run the rapids with it.  It is a great place to watch the advent of spring.

We have sap buckets on all our old maples.  It is perfect sugaring weather--warm in the day and below freezing at night.  I am told the sap is running real sweet this year. The sugar content in the sap is determined by how big the tree's canopy was the season before.  And judging from the amount of leaves that fell on our lawns last fall, I would say we had a bumper crop!  This year I am going to get some of the dark amber syrup (GRADE C) and use it in my maple-based recipes.  It has a stronger maple flavor.
